After this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Consider evidence-based treatments for older adults in multiple settings
  • Consider the role of assessments in older adult populations and discuss appropriate referral / treatment planning for specialized neuropsychological evaluations
  • Review neurodegenerative diseases common in older adults and discuss appropriate assessment and intervention
  • Review evidence-based treatments for depression, anxiety insomnia and/or other diagnoses
  • Review the role of positive aging in clinical practice
  • Discuss clinical resources for older adults in the Houston area
  • Discuss inter-generational family and caregiver issues

Dr. Carlson Zhao is a new voice for caring for your brain and helping people affected by memory loss when time is of critical importance. She is a licensed psychologist, with extensive training in neuropsychology and geropsychology offered in outpatient, inpatient and residential settings. Her experience with Baylor College of Medicine's Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorders Center and at Amazing Place Memory Care and Wellness Center provided the springobard for the creation of the Center for Optimal Brain Health, which she founded three years ago to offer an alternative solution for adults to keep their memory strong through personalized care. The Center accepts Medicare to broadly serve more Houstonians in addition to offering forensic services for corporate clients. Dr. Carlson Zhao is a full professional member of the National Academy of Neuropsychologists, the Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment, and multiple professional associations in addition to serving as a board member of HPA. An international presenter, her research and publications relating to persons with dementia and caregivers have resulted in featured speaking engagements at national conferences and trainings.
